Planning Process
The Comprehensive Plan is expected to be updated over a 12-month timeframe, beginning in August 2025. The major tasks include conducting background research, receiving feedback from the public, and developing a new plan to guide land use and development decisions. The process is outlined below.
Major Project Steps
Phase One
August '25 - February '26
The first phase of the project involves collecting background data, analyzing existing conditions, and getting initial input from the public. This will include extensive research, mapping, an online community survey, and a public kickoff event.
Phase Two
March 2026
After the Planning Commission finalizes the first draft of the Comprehensive Plan, it will be released to the public for review. The public will be able to view the draft online, provide comments, and attend public drop-in meetings to share feedback.
It's anticipated that 5 meetings will be held across the County. More information will be shared in early 2026.
Phase Three
April - June
When the public has provided feedback on the initial draft, the final Comprehensive Plan update will be developed. When finalized, the Plan will go through the formal adoption process, including meetings with the Planning Commission, public notifications, public hearings, and County Council meetings.
