Planning Process
The Comprehensive Plan is expected to be updated over a 12-month timeframe, beginning in September 2025. The major tasks include conducting background research, receiving feedback from the public, and developing a new plan to guide land use and development decisions. The process is outlined below.
Major Project Steps
Phase One
September '25 - February '26
The first phase of the project involves collecting background data, analyzing existing conditions, and getting initial input from the public. This will include extensive research, mapping, an online community survey, and a public kickoff event.
Phase Two
March - April 2026
After the Planning Commission reviewed the draft recommendations of the Comprehensive Plan, a series of 7 public drop-in meetings were held throughout the County. Participants were able to speak with the consultants, ask questions, and share feedback. If you were unable to attend a meeting, you can view the public meeting boards here and share comments here. Once the draft Plan Update is completed, this will also be shared on the project website.
Phase Three
April - August
When the public has provided feedback on the initial draft, the final Comprehensive Plan update will be developed. This will be reviewed with the Planning Commission at their regular meeting on April 27, 2026. When finalized, the Plan will go through the formal adoption process, including meetings with the Planning Commission, public notifications, public hearings, and County Council meetings. Public meetings scheduled as part of the adoption process will be announced on this website and through the email list.
